Questions & Answers About Bank Drafting
How does Bank Drafting Work?
After the completed enrollment form is returned to DMS, your account will be updated to include bank drafting information. This information is kept confidential. The information will be verified and then direct payment will begin. Allow a minimum of 30-60 days for this process.
How will I know the amount of my utility statement?
Utility statements will continue to be mailed to you. After your account has been verified your utility statement will indicate ***Bank Draft***. This will give you the amount to be charged to your bank account. Normally your bank account will be charged on day 13 from the statement generation date or the day before the discount date.
What if I do not have enough money in my bank account to cover the bill?
If there are insufficient funds, the bank will return a notice of advice to the DMS. The payment will be reversed, your discount will not be applied and the late payment penalty will be applied. You will then be responsible to make the missed payment.
What if I need to change or close my bank account?
If you need to change or close your bank account you must notify our office in writing of the change. If you want to continue with direct pay of your account, you will need to fill out a form with the correct information to start bank drafting with your new bank account. This process will again take 30-60 days. You will be responsible to make all payments until direct pay starts again.
